On November 21st 2000, on the feast of Jesus Christ, King of the Universe, the city and county of Świebodzin entrusted their fate to Jesus Christ the King. This act was then preceded by the Holy Missions in all parishes in Świebodzin. In memory of this event and as a sign of faith, a monumental statue of Jesus Christ, King of the Universe was erected, in contrast to the statue of Christ the Redeemer from Rio de Janeiro (Brasil), although it is compared to her because of its size. Construction was carried out in 2001-2010. The creator, initiator of the construction and author of the concept was the late Pf. Prelate Sylwester Zawadzki, whose heart rests under the statue according to his will.
The statue designed by the sculptor Mirosław Patecki was created thanks to the support and participation of parishioners, residents of Świebodzin and many sympathizers of this place and the idea associated with it - both from Poland and abroad.
Christ the King of Świebodzin is a building that hides a lot of symbolism. The figure of Christ measures 33 meters in height and recalls the time of the earthly life of the Lord Jesus. The three meter high crown symbolizes three years of his public service. The figure facing the city, which has already become an integral part of its panorama, stands on a 16-meter-high hill, surrounded by five rings, which symbolize the saving role of Christ for five continents and his rule over the world.
The figure was blessed on the feast of Jesus Christ, King of the Universe on November 21st 2010. It was performed by Bishop Stefan Regmunt during a solemn Holy Mass. Under the direction of Card. Henryk Gulbinowicz and Archbishop Andrzej Dzięga who delivered the sermon.
